Short Biography
Bev Dahlby joined the Department of Economics at the University of Alberta in 1978, after completing his graduate studies at the London School of Economics. His main area of research is tax policy and fiscal federalism. He has served as a policy advisor to the Canadian federal government on the reform of business taxation (the Mintz Committee), on the reform of fiscal equalization, and on the evaluation of tax credits for television and film industry. His international experience includes advisory work on tax reform in Malawi for the IMF and in Thailand for the Thailand Development Research Institute in Bangkok. In 2007, he served as the research director of the Financial Investment and Planning Advisory Commission appointed by the Alberta government and in 2008 as an advisor to the World Bank on the reform of the fiscal transfer system in Brazil. He was an Associate Editor of Canadian Public Policy and is currently a member of the editorial board of the Canadian Tax Journal. He has been a member of the Executive Council of the Canadian Economics Association and the National Statistics Council. In 1998-99, he held a McCalla Research Professorship at the University of Alberta. He was a visiting professor at the Australian Taxation Studies Program, University of New South Wales in August 2002 and at the University of Innsbruck in May 2007. In 2004 and 2008, Bev Dahlby was on sabbatical at the Graduate School of Economics, Getulio Vargas Foundation, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is currently a Fellow-in-Residence at the C.D. Howe Institute, Toronto.
